MIRA Expands its Technical Service Offering in Korea
MIRA is continuing to expand its service offering in Korea after signing Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) – Korea and the Korea Automobile Testing and Research Institute (KATRI)
The MOU between MIRA and LRQA will see the UK engineering consultancy collaborate with LRQA on upcoming functional safety projects and provide world leading expertise in the application of ISO 26262 at a local level in Korea. As part of this agreement, MIRA will also support LRQA in setting up a specialised course on functional safety and ISO 26262 in Korea – which is widely accepted in the industry as best practice for the development of safety related electronic systems in vehicles. As the first automotive facility in the UK to be certified to deliver an internationally recognised accredited certification scheme for functional safety, MIRA has a leading position in the field. This will enable it to help customers in the region to understand how their development processes can be adapted to satisfy the standard and assist them in achieving compliance and certification for their products.
The continued expansion of MIRA’s footprint in the region is further strengthened by the agreement with KATRI, and opens the door to the UK firm providing driver training, safety development, certification and engineering services in the region supported by their Korean counterpart’s comprehensive suite of test and proving ground facilities based in Gyeonggi Province. The two companies will work together to help customers test and develop safety aspects of a wide range of new automotive technologies.

MIRA will now work with both parties to seek new opportunities for collaborative research and provide joint engineering services to the expanding Korean automotive industry.
The announcements will have a great synergistic effect between MIRA and each of the two highly respected organisations, and help customers in Korea to benefit from easier access to MIRA’s industry leading services and 67 years of engineering expertise. The collaborations aim to boosting international confidence in the safety of Korean vehicles and subsequently increase the export market of Korean road vehicles and their components.
