Lockheed Martin Expands into New Site on MIRA Technology Park

Having successfully secured two major Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFV) programmes almost simultaneously, LMUK is looking to expand its workforce.

Establishing this engineering facility on the MIRA site means LMUK Ampthill is ideally placed to target AFV technology specialists in the Midlands, and beyond to the North, in order to continue its work in providing the UK’s Armed Forces with the most up to date defence systems.

Alan McCormick, Vice President and Managing Director of LMUK Ampthill said;

“We are delighted to be a part of the new MIRA Technology Park. With the facility now in place, we are keen to attract Electrical and Electronic Design Engineers, Mechanical Design Engineers and System Integration and Test Engineers.

“The creation of this satellite, combined with the MIRA’s plans for the Technology Park, will see this relationship develop and grow, enabling us to attract a skilled and dynamic workforce and take advantage of a range of test facilities not available to us at our Ampthill site.”

The LMUK site on the technology park will combine office space with a workshop and lab facilities to house up to 30 staff. It will also benefit from the Enterprise Zone status, which was awarded to MIRA Technology Park in August 2011, to stimulate the growth of this centre of excellence in transport technology.

Dr Geoff Davis, Chief Commercial and Technology Officer, MIRA Ltd, said;

“We are delighted that Lockheed Martin has decided to create a satellite facility at MIRA Technology Park.

“Our aim has always been to create the ideal location for businesses to foster and realise technical innovation. MIRA Technology Park is now well on its way to becoming one of the most advanced research and development communities for transport technologies in Europe and we are pleased that Lockheed Martin will be part of that story.”
