HORIBA MIRA is renowned the world over for the contribution it makes to automotive design and development but few are aware of the significant engineering contribution we make to the aerospace sector.

For many years HORIBA MIRA has consistently developed capabilities to conduct a range of aerospace specific test services many of which are now utilised by leading UK aerospace primes.

Services to aerospace can be broadly classified under four headings:

  • Aircraft seat engineering and certification
  • Design, simulation and modelling
  • Aerospace component testing
  • Test equipment design and installation

Quality accreditations are in place including ISO17025 and ISO9001:2000 together with a number of customer specific quality approvals.

Most aerospace specific testing is conducted in line with the requirements of RTCA-DO-160.

In addition, testing is also conducted to Def Stan 00-35, MIL-STD 810, and BS EN60068.

HORIBA MIRA is able to conduct whole product certification programmes on a wide range of aerospace products supported by the ability to conduct large scale project management assignments within the aerospace sector.

Test facilities are spread across two sites, the main site is located in Nuneaton, Warwickshire and the second site where most of the aerospace component testing is conducted is situated in Basildon, Essex.

A secure transport service for collection and delivery of aerospace products for test is in operation to ensure a prompt and efficient service to clients.

    MIRA is experienced in environmental and vibration testing to simulate in-service conditions and in particular the forces experienced during take-off and landing, and periods of extreme turbulence.

    Utilising LS-Dyna computer modelling, MIRA offers finite element analysis (FEA) of aircraft seats working to the requirements of SAE AS8049 to reduce development costs and shorten the time required to obtain full certification.

    MIRA's test facility engineering department has an impressive portfolio, providing design, development, and installation for a number of complex test facilities used in the development of aircraft.  


  • EMC Component Testing Facilities

    MIRA’s EMC Engineering department support the Aerospace industry in all elements of EMC Design, EM Simulation and EMC testing. Our EMC laboratories are capable of performing tests to a wide range of aerospace requirements covering radiated emissions, radiated immunity and power fluctuation tests for DC powered equipment. Combining the EMC testing with other environmental services, MIRA offer the complete testing suite to support the Aerospace industry. 


  • HyGe Laboratory
