The requirement for energy efficient electric and hybrid vehicle systems is rapidly becoming a focus for vehicle OEMs and powertrain suppliers.

The NEV (New Energy Vehicle) points system in China rates vehicles based on their AER (All-Electric Range) for a given battery capacity and other countries are considering similar evaluation processes.  Even in markets where there is no such measurement, the electric range of electric vehicles is a key factor for the consumer, especially as the charging infrastructure in many countries is not well developed
