Industrial Placement Scheme

Our Industrial Placement Scheme is designed for young people who are eager to gain valuable paid experience in a professional organisation and develop their skills. It also provides a great opportunity for students to see what HORIBA MIRA has to offer and many of our industrial placement students have successfully secured roles with us after graduating from the scheme.

Typically our industrial placement positions are taken by students between their second and third year at university as part of a year in industry, or those who are looking to gain experience in the workplace before starting a masters degree.

We're currently offering the chance for students to gain experience in the following areas:
  • Mechanical engineering - working on a wide range of vehicle projects from passenger cars right up to heavy commercial vehicles, with work involving:
    • Whole vehicle development programmes
    • BIW design for crashworthiness, durability and NVH
    • Chassis engineering design and development
    • Thermal management design and development
    • Ride, handling and NVH programmes
    • Specification, design and development of commercial braking systems
  • Test operations - providing clients with extensive testing services to meet regulations and standards using facilities such as the:
    • Crash laboratory
    • Pedestrian safety facility
    • Vehicle and component environmental test chambers
    • Full-scale aerodynamic wind tunnel
    • Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) test chambers
    • Component and structures test labs
  • Electrical / Electronic engineering - using the latest generation of software and hardware development tools to develop state of the art vehicle systems including:
    • Driverless cars
    • Powertrain electrification
    • Hybrid vehicle control
    • Intelligent battery management systems
    • Advanced vehicle control systems
    • Autonomous military vehicles
  • Commercial / Business roles - work in conjunction with our engineering teams to identify new potential business streams from automotive, defence, rail and aerospace sectors to utilise our UK facilities.
    • Gain experience of managing the client relationship from proposal, through requirements specification and on to programme delivery
